Is it plausible to reside in a  small home plan? Does living in a small house plan mean living in cramped quarters? What is the attraction to the home plan  short on space?

Almost five years ago, the credo was to construct mightier and gargantuan  home plans. Today, those grand design concepts have been scaled back by as much as 90 percent. In contrast to the living quarters of domiciles in Spain, Austria and New Zealand, small home plans in America are grossly exaggerated.

Nonetheless, looming prices of energy, the cost to fuel homes and maintain the over-sized household, some conservative homeowners are opting for less space.

So the question is a nagging one: Is it possible to comfortably reside in less space?

The Small House Society endorses such living arrangements. The outreach group serves as an advocate for the Small House Movement. Founded by Gregory Johnson, Jay Shafer, Shay Salomon, and Nigel Valdez, the Small House Society provides awareness and resources, highlighting the benefits of living affordably and environmentally suitable.

But based on the “small home” plans that were included in the search results at House Plans and More, the diminutive abode is not necessarily the mini-sized living scenario. The home design ideas and resource site shows some 8500+  ’small home plans’.

In fact, small home design encompasses any house plan under 2000 sq ft.

Moreover, the small home plan is not short on architectural design style either. However,  many of the smaller homes were cottage home plans, ranch house plans and farmhouses.

To build an even smaller home plan for less, some architects and builders recommend a pre-fabricated house, in the form of a modular home plan.

Within the search for a lovely small home plan at HousePlansandMore.com, the Creek Log Home (Home plan# 592-073D-0037) boasted all the amenities of a mammoth sized log home packaged in 1665 square feet. In fact, the small house plan comprises a sloping loft, great room, an indoor balcony, two laundry or utility rooms, three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a covered porch and two decks. (So much for the small home plan).

As seen among homeowners across America–the small home plan is in the life of the resident. A family of 5-living  in Aurora, Colorado downsized to a 700 sq. foot home,  find the small house plan to afford an intimately cozy existence.
